In the Spotlight

Christmas Celebration in Bawana

We organised special parties to make the Christmas celebrations joyful and memorable for the children of the SOS Village in Bawana. The event was filled with fun activities, including games, dancing, delicious snacks, and festive feasts that the children thoroughly enjoyed. Through such celebrations, we aim to help children understand and embrace the true spirit of every festival.

Sports Day

A summer camp was organised with table tennis and cricket matches for the youth, along with chess, football and karate classes. Highlights included a sports tournament and a visit to the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai to watch the Ranji Trophy match between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Culinary Skills

On Women’s Day, mothers from the SOS Village in Jaipur were invited to the hotel for a session with the Sous Chef to refine their cooking skills and learn healthy recipes. The session also included raising awareness about proper hand hygiene practices.

Financial Literacy

A session was organised to educate women on financial empowerment. It guided mothers in villages on saving and planning for a better future and also covered investment schemes and interest rates.

Digital Literacy

The ‘We Live Foundation’ organised several virtual sessions for children from SOS Villages to help them develop essential skills in portfolio creation, career goals (SWOT analysis), employability skills, resume preparation, job application strategies, LinkedIn profile building and mock interviews.

Tree Plantation

Sessions for environmental awareness were organised at the SOS Village in Chennai where children were taught the importance of planting trees for the betterment of the environment. Children were encouraged to plant saplings during the sessions.

Cyber Safety Activity

Sessions were conducted to raise awareness among the young children of the SOS Village about the basics of cyber safety, which will help them safeguard their personal information and data while using the internet.

Hospitality Career Sessions

Sessions were held to highlight the significance of education and career opportunities within the hospitality industry. These discussions aimed to inform and inspire individuals about pursuing a career in hospitality.

Soft Skills

A three-month summer camp was organised for children and youth, focusing on enhancing English, Mathematics and computer skills. The camp also included behaviour modification, discipline, character building, and regular reading and writing sessions to enhance vocabulary and spoken skills.

Success Stories

Mampi’s Journey from Grief to Glory

After the loss of her sister-in-law Anjali Das, Mampi Das took on the responsibility of supporting her family. With the help of the Family Strengthening Program, she first enrolled in a computer training course and later pursued a Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application (PGDCA) under the IT Girls youth skilling program. Family Strengthening Program supported her with travel, stationery, and career counselling. Mampi cleared the Border Security Force exam and was selected as a Constable in 2023 with a salary of ₹36,000, expected to rise post-training. Her journey, from grief and hardship to becoming the family's pillar of support, is a true reflection of how the Family Strengthening Program creates pathways for dignity, confidence, and success.

From Village Dreams to University Halls: Mohit’s Inspiring Climb

Mohit, a bright student from the SOS Children’s Villages of India, has been supported by EIH Limited under the Family Homes Support program. Once a young boy with a passion for learning, Mohit’s journey is now a shining example for every youth growing up in an SOS family home. With hard work and perseverance, he cracked the entrance exam for Delhi Technical University and is currently pursuing his MSc in Chemistry. Beyond academics, Mohit shines as a mentor, running his own YouTube channel, Chemistry Adda by Mohit, to help students like him. Whether it's excelling in studies, engaging in cultural events, or inspiring others through his journey, Mohit proves that when opportunity meets determination, dreams take flight. His goal to become a Chemistry professor is not just a career path - it’s his way of giving back and lighting the way for others.

Rinkal’s Digital Breakthrough

As the eldest of four children in Datniya Grava Vas, Rinkal always dreamed of achieving more, despite limited resources. Her life changed when she enrolled in the Digital Literacy Centre (DLC) initiated by the SOS Children’s Villages. With no previous access to mobile phones or computers, Rinkal embraced digital learning wholeheartedly. Under the guidance of the DLC team and with support from donors like Sony Pictures, she quickly gained confidence and skills. Her hard work paid off when she scored an impressive 86% in the final digital assessment. Today, Rinkal's story is a symbol of how digital access and the right environment can empower rural youth to dream bigger and reach higher.

Nazma’s Journey from Struggle to Self-Reliance

Nazma, a resilient woman from Bawana, always dreamed of supporting her family through her tailoring skills. But financial hardship and household responsibilities held her back until she became part of the Family Strengthening Program of SOS Children’s Village, Bawana, supported by EIH Limited. With a sewing machine and materials provided through the program, Nazma finally launched her tailoring business. Today, she proudly runs a successful shop in her locality, earning between ₹9,000 and ₹14,000 per month. Her steady income has eased the financial burden on her husband and given her confidence, dignity, and independence. Nazma’s journey from struggle to success is a powerful example of how the right support can help women rebuild their lives and achieve financial stability.

Hasrati’s Road to Respect and Stability

Living in Bawana, Delhi, Hasrati, a 40-year-old mother of five, struggled to make ends meet on a ₹6000 monthly income. She and her husband sold plastic items in the community but couldn’t provide enough for their children. With support from the Family Strengthening Program program, she received ₹16,000 to expand her business, along with training through her Asha Self-Help Group. Applying those skills, Hasrati turned her small venture into a steady livelihood. Today, she earns ₹12,000 per month, ensures her children eat well, attend school, receive study materials, and even tuition. From surviving in a single-room house to creating a healthy, secure, and respectful life, Hasrati’s transformation is a testament to the power of opportunity and determination.
